Danielle L. Jensen Books in Order: The Complete Reading Guide (2026)

The complete Danielle L. Jensen reading order — the Saga of the Unfated, the Bridge Kingdom series, and the Malediction Trilogy — with the best place to start.

By James Hartley

Danielle L. Jensen has built a devoted readership across more than a decade of fantasy, from her early Malediction Trilogy to the enemies-to-lovers spy romance of the Bridge Kingdom and, most recently, the Norse-inspired Saga of the Unfated that began with A Fate Inked in Blood. With several series across different worlds, knowing where to start and what order to read can be confusing. This guide lays out her work series by series.

The short version: start with A Fate Inked in Blood for her newest series, or The Bridge Kingdom for the long-running fan favorite. Each series stands alone.

Best starting points: A Fate Inked in Blood (newest) or The Bridge Kingdom (fan favorite).

The Newest: Saga of the Unfated

Jensen’s most recent breakout is a Norse-inspired adult romantasy, and it’s a fantastic entry point for readers coming from the current wave of the genre.

#1 — A Fate Inked in Blood (2024)

A Fate Inked in Blood follows Freya, a shield-maiden bound to a jarl with ambitions to rule all of Skaland, after she’s revealed to be the prophesied weapon that could unite the land. Caught between the warrior sworn to guard her and the dangerous politics of her fate, Freya drives a story full of Norse mythology, battle, and slow-burn tension. It’s Jensen’s biggest hit and a strong starting point.

#2 — A Curse Carved in Bone (2025)

A Curse Carved in Bone continues the saga, raising the stakes for Freya and deepening the conflict and romance the first book establishes. Read it directly after A Fate Inked in Blood to keep the story’s momentum.

The Fan Favorite: The Bridge Kingdom

The Bridge Kingdom is the series longtime Jensen readers most often recommend, anchored by one of romantasy’s great enemies-to-lovers setups.

#1 — The Bridge Kingdom (2019)

The Bridge Kingdom sends Lara to marry the king of an enemy kingdom — as a trained spy ordered to find the weakness that will let her own people destroy it. The trouble is that both Lara and Aren are positioned as each other’s antagonists with legitimate grievances, and the romance develops through a genuine shift in understanding rather than mere proximity. It’s a sharp, satisfying enemies-to-lovers fantasy and the best entry to the series.

#2 — The Traitor Queen (2020)

The Traitor Queen completes Lara and Aren’s central arc, resolving the conflict the first book sets up. Together, these two books form the core of the series.

Continuing the World

The saga continues with The Inadequate Heir (2021), The Endless War (2023), and The Twisted Throne (2024), which expand the world and follow additional characters within the same kingdom-spanning conflict. Read them in that order after the first two books.

Where It Began: The Malediction Trilogy

Jensen’s debut series is a darker, atmospheric fantasy worth seeking out for readers who want to go back to the start.

#1 — Stolen Songbird (2014)

Stolen Songbird opens the trilogy with Cécile, kidnapped and taken beneath a mountain to the hidden, cursed city of trolls, where she’s bound to a troll prince in a union that might break the curse trapping them all. It’s an inventive, slightly gothic fantasy romance and the foundation of Jensen’s career.

#2–3 — Hidden Huntress (2015) and Warrior Witch (2016)

Hidden Huntress and Warrior Witch complete the trilogy, following the consequences of the first book and bringing Cécile and Tristan’s story to its conclusion. Read them in order after Stolen Songbird.

How to Read Danielle L. Jensen’s Books

Jensen’s series are set in separate worlds, so there’s no single overarching order — just read each series in its internal sequence and choose your entry point based on what you’re in the mood for:

  • Want her newest, Norse-inspired work? Start with A Fate Inked in Blood.
  • Want the most-recommended enemies-to-lovers romance? Start with The Bridge Kingdom.
  • Want to read everything from the beginning? Start with Stolen Songbird and work forward chronologically through her career.

What to Expect From Danielle L. Jensen

The constant across Jensen’s career is tension — both romantic and political. Her couples tend to begin as adversaries with real, legitimate reasons to distrust each other, and the romance earns its turn through a genuine shift in understanding rather than mere attraction. Around that, she builds worlds with actual political stakes: kingdoms at war, prophecies that reshape nations, characters caught between loyalty and love. It’s a formula she’s refined from the trolls-beneath-the-mountain gothic of Malediction through the spy-marriage intrigue of the Bridge Kingdom to the Norse battlefields of Saga of the Unfated.

Her work has also grown steadily more adult and higher-heat over time, which is worth knowing when you choose an entry point. The Malediction Trilogy reads younger; the Bridge Kingdom sits in the middle; and Saga of the Unfated leans fully into adult romantasy. Wherever you start, expect sharp enemies-to-lovers chemistry and a plot that treats its political conflicts as seriously as its romance.

If You Love Danielle L. Jensen, Read These Next

Jensen’s enemies-to-lovers tension and political intrigue pair well with the genre’s heavy hitters. For the dragon-rider romantasy that shares her high-stakes-romance energy, read Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. For atmospheric, romance-forward fantasy, try Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross. And for dark vampire romantasy with deadly trials, The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent is a strong next pick.

What order should I read Danielle L. Jensen's books?

Read each series in its own order. Saga of the Unfated is A Fate Inked in Blood then A Curse Carved in Bone. The Bridge Kingdom series runs The Bridge Kingdom, The Traitor Queen, The Inadequate Heir, The Endless War, and The Twisted Throne. The Malediction Trilogy is Stolen Songbird, Hidden Huntress, and Warrior Witch. The series stand alone, so you can read them in any order between them.

Where should I start with Danielle L. Jensen?

Two strong starting points: A Fate Inked in Blood, the first book of her Norse-inspired Saga of the Unfated, is her most recent breakout; and The Bridge Kingdom, an enemies-to-lovers spy romance, is a long-time fan favorite. Both are excellent entry points depending on whether you want her newest work or her most-recommended series.

No. A Fate Inked in Blood (Saga of the Unfated) and The Bridge Kingdom are separate series set in different worlds, with no shared characters or continuity. You can read either one first. They share Jensen's signature enemies-to-lovers tension and political intrigue but tell entirely independent stories.

How many books are in the Bridge Kingdom series?

The Bridge Kingdom series includes The Bridge Kingdom, The Traitor Queen, The Inadequate Heir, The Endless War, and The Twisted Throne. The first two books center on Lara and Aren, while later books expand the world and follow additional characters within the same saga.
